At the beginning of each year, GOD reveals a Bible character for me to study. Sometimes it requires a year long concentration and focus. Sometimes the character provides the focus for the year. This year, 2018, the character was Ruth.
When I initially remembered this character, I thought immediately that I was Ruth and I needed to find my Neomi. I was excited about finding an assistant to help me with all of my various tasks, my ill-defined ideas, and the mundane. As I began to review Ruth, I remembered Ruth was the woman who unconditionally loved and gave. Neomi was the woman she was assigned to serve.
I’ll admit for a minute I rejected the thought that I was to be Ruth to many Neomi’s. I was tired of being depleted, of adding value without recognition, and building someone else’s vision. Well, that was part of it. The other part was that my confidence sometimes borders on conceit. I have to check it on a regular basis. I thought I knew too much to serve someone else’s minor vision. After GOD checked me, reminded me of my own stank, and showed me how many of His warrior chicks were serving without repleting. I am more than happy to serve.
So, in 2018 I am #RuthtoNeomi. I will host and pay for multiple events, activities, and opportunities. GOD will provide the invitation list.
